Selecting A Boxer: Essential Dog Info

Posted on July 23, 2008

Selecting your Boxer dog starts with checking out the parent dogs for unbecoming traits like aggression, hyperactive and extreme shyness.

This is easier to do when you get your Boxer from a reputable breeder or from a pet shop that get their animals only from known breeders.

Exercise prudence if you are getting your Boxer puppy from pet stores, which often get their supply from breeders of unknown reputation.

These “puppy mills” as they are called are not known to put much emphasis on the quality and health of the pups they are producing.

Reputable breeders will adhere to the accepted standards for Boxers in terms of uniformity in the breed, good health, temperament, size and color.

Reputable breeders would be able to show the pedigree and registration papers and/or photos of the parent dogs that may live somewhere else.

Professional breeders are also there to produce dog show champions or prospects.

Even if you are not wanting to raise a show champion Boxer, known breeders can provide you with some “best buy” puppies because not all the puppies in a litter are show prospect/champion materials.

The full litter would have had benefited from the same proven bloodlines, nutrition and medical care. So you can select from among the good-looking brothers or sisters of potential champion for a bargain.

Your other source option is animal shelters that in the US alone receive up to 12 million homeless dogs and cats every year, and about 25% of them are pure bred. Paying the adoption fee is a lot cheaper than the price you will pay to a breeder or pet store, and you will be saving a life.

The definition of good stock or pure bred must include beauty, and in a Boxer good look means the coat is fawn and brindle, with the white markings or “flash” covering not more than one-third of the entire coat.

Sometimes the distribution of the “flash” alone may make the difference between a show champion and just a pet Boxer.

The all-white Boxer or “check” is prone to blindness and deafness, and the American Boxer Club members are not to register, sell or use the “whites” for breeding.

When it comes to choosing male or female Boxers, there are not much clear-cut differences in their personalities.

Of course no matter what breed of dog you have proper training is essential. And that starts with house breaking. Make sure you do it right

Top Pet Care Guide: Leaving A Dog Alone

Posted on July 21, 2008

If you are planning to leave your puppy dog alone for a long period of time then don’t be surprised with the behavior issues he might develop. Being alone, he deals with two big problems. The first one is the emotional and physical discomfort, because he sees he is free but he doesn’t know what he is allowed to do and what he isn’t. Sometimes stress is added because he is afraid of doing something that can get him punished. The second problem comes out of the need of a dog for companionship.

If it is a small dog, he should be familiar with his environment. If a little dog is to be left alone the whole day, then make sure he has enough water and that a big part of the room he is left into will be covered in papers. A small dog needs to satisfy his physiological needs every three hours. Do not under any circumstances leave the dog locked in the doggy house without given him access to water. You should let him stay in a small room, for example the kitchen.

A good idea might be coming home in your lunch break or hiring someone to walk your dog. This way he gets a chance to meet other people and dogs and help you prevent a home disaster.

Experts recommend us to spend a few hours a day with our dog and to introduce him to as many friends and neighbors as we can until he turns 7-12 weeks old, because at this age the puppy holds the capacity to understand some situations.

And of course you need to devote the time to house train your puppy. Regular routine is essential to success Toilet training puppies puppy potty training crate training your dog

If you have an adult dog, that needs to be fed only once a day, it is simpler. The dog will eat at night or in the evening when you get home. You will walk him in the morning and when you get back from work. But try not to be out of the house more that 8 hours because he has a schedule, he knows exactly when he is given food and when he will be walked. If you don’t impose a routine, the dog will be stressed and the house a mess.

Never leave the dog alone when you are planning to go on a trip or on a vacation. If possible take him with you or if not, hire someone or ask some friends to take care of him.

It is important to make it up to your dog. If you have to leave him alone a lot during work days, try and spend more time with him on weekends and holidays. Behavior issues can be easily corrected if you just play more with the dog.

Taking Your Pet Dog To The Park: Essential Pet Care Advice

A great way for your dog to get the exercise it needs is at the local pet park. Pet parks offer various activities for the pet to do. This may include things to climb on, a place to run and even other animals to interact with. The fact is that this is a great way for pet owners to fully allow their pets exercise that is good for them.

Just as you would take your child to play at the park, take your dog. Most pets will find that this is a great way to move and play. You can often meet other pet owners here as well and find some friends to enjoy.

It is very important that your dog be socialized in order to participate in the pet parks available. To find out if your area offers this type of park, contact city hall and ask. If not, find out if you can help get one started.

By training your dog to do tricks it means helping them to become fit. A dog that learns how to fetch, for instance, is a dog that is going to get a lot more running and movement to his day when you play with him.

The old saying that you can not teach an old dog a new trick is not accurate. Pets of all ages can be trained to do various activities. You can do this with your dog and see his exercise level increase.

A good way to keep yourself on track for your dog’s exercise requirements is to simply schedule time in your day to make it happen. Pets need to be an essential part of your day. You can schedule their time for exercise just as you would pick the kids up from school.

Making it a part of your schedule helps you to stick with it and it will help your pet to stay on schedule too. Most importantly, it helps you to remember to exercise your dog. Without that reminder, most people will put it off and forget, leaving their dog without this important benefit in their life.

Pool parties are great because they not only allow you to socialize with friends, but they also give everyone a way to cool off. If you are thinking about hosting a pool party, you will need to start planning. Despite what you may think there is actually a lot of planning involved in hosting a pool party.

Perhaps, the first step in planning a pool party is to let everyone know that you are having one. Although pool parties may not be like birthday parties or Christmas parties, you may still want to send invitations to your guests. These invitations, if you choose to send them, do not have to be elaborate. In fact, since your pool party will most likely be casual, your invitations should be as well. If invitations are not your style, simply phone or send them an email, inviting them to your pool party.

Having an accurate guest count may help you better prepare for your party. In fact, a guest count may enable you to determine how much food, drinks, or snacks you should have on hand.

If you are planning on including a barbeque with your pool party, you will need to decide what type of food you would like to serve. Like any other special occasion, you may want to have a wide variety of different foods. This will ensure that there will be at least one thing on the menu that each guest will enjoy. In addition to main courses, such as meat, you will also want to include side dishes. These side dishes commonly include fruits, vegetables, and salads.

After you have decided which foods you would like served at your barbeque, you will also need to think about making them. Even if your party isn’t for a few weeks, you may still want to develop a cooking schedule ahead of time. Although your main courses, such as barbequed meat, will be prepared the day of your pool party, you may want to prepare everything else earlier that day or the day before. This will help not only to ensure that you get all of the food prepared on time, but that you are also able to enjoy your own party.

If you are planning on having a pool party, without serving a large meal, you may still want to have snacks and drinks on hand. Non-alcoholic drinks and most snack foods can be purchased for a reasonable price. Alcoholic drinks make for a great party, but some drinks can be expensive to purchase, especially in large quantities.

Aside from the food and entertainment, you may also want to make sure that you have a number of pool supplies and accessories on hand. These items may include, but should not be limited to, beach balls, lifejackets, arm floaties, swim rings, floating chairs, and other popular swim toys. If you do not already have a large collection of swim toys, you can easily buy a few low-cost ones. Many pool toys, such as swim rings, arm floaties, and beach balls, can be bought for a reasonable price. In fact, many of these items only cost around two or three dollars. It may also be a good idea to have extra towels on hand, just in case any of your guests forget to bring theirs.

Although pool parties are designed to be fun, you may want to establish some pool rules ahead of time. These rules may help to keep your pool and your pool party guests safe, especially young children. Whether you plan a simple pool party or an elaborate one, it is likely that you will be happy with your decision to plan your party, ahead of time.

Buffet Lamps

Lighting is very important when it comes to making your house look beautiful. Lights and lamps also serve a functional purpose. There is more to buying a table lamp than grabbing the first one you think looks pretty. You also need to think about your needs. You should consider size, color, scale, function and wattage. Even your own height is important! Your choice of table lamp depends on what you want the lamp for. Is it for dining and entertaining? Is it for reading or working? Or just for some extra lighting? These tips should help you choose the best table lamp for your needs.

Size

If you want accent lamps as a decorative accent or for general illumination (ambient light) pretty much any size will be fine, as long as it will suit the room. If you plan to use the lamp for reading, you should bear this in mind when choosing one. Reading by the light of a small ornamental lamp can be very frustrating and not good for your eyes! If you want a mini lamp, or indeed several, there are plenty of affordable ones on offer. Two matching lamps either side of a bed can look great and bedside lamps don’t need to be huge. Large table lamps look stunning in a spacious dining room or sizable lounge.

Height

If you want the Buffet lamps next to a sofa or chair, the base of the shade should be level with the seated person’s ear. This prevents the bulb from shining directly into their eyes. It is a good idea to measure the height of the table you plan to put the lamp on before buying it. Think about where the shade is going to go - do you want a table lamp to illuminate the whole table or just something to give some subtle lighting in a certain part of the room? You can choose the bulb wattage but different table lamps accept different bulb wattages so bear this in mind too before you make a purchase.

Color and Style

You can buy tiffany lamps in just about any color or style these days. Matching your table lamp to your décor is a good idea. If you have, for example, a peach colored room, a peach tone of table lamp can introduce a beautiful accent and blend into the décor. If you favor the antique look, a Tiffany style lamp can look attractive. Tiffany lamps were popular in the 1970s and are making a big comeback now, thanks to their timeless style. They are now more refined in terms of color and design and more affordable in today’s economy.

You can choose from fringed lampshades, plain fabric lampshades, glass fibers and many more designs. It is worth taking as much time as you need to select the perfect one.

For something a little more modern, how about a traditional desk lamp or something quirky, like a lamp with the sun, moon and stars on? You can get copper-based lamps, gold effect lamps, silver lamps and many more types. Your table lamps should match both your personality and requirements.

Table lamps are the most common type of lamps and because there are so many options, you should easily be able to find the perfect ones for you and your home. Professional decorators and homeowners agree that with the right lighting, especially table lamps, a room can be transformed and made truly comfortable and beautiful.

Practical Help: Boston Terrier Dog Breed

Posted on June 22, 2008

The Boston terrier is a well-muscled and compact breed. This is not really surprising since the Boston terrier was initially bred by people who wanted to use them in dog fights. Now some people may read all sorts of implications from such a violent past. Some people might think that the Boston terrier dog would make a bad pet because of its aggressive nature. But, you should know that as a pet, the Boston terrier can actually be pretty mild mannered.

The temperament of the Boston terrier can be described as enthusiastic as it often loves to play. Most people comment that the Boston terrier actually has a great sense of humor. Another characteristic that people find delightful with this breed is the fact that they are intelligent and are very much easily trained. This fact is also enhanced by the dog’s natural curiosity and love for learning.

Of course, people who own pets know the importance of training. Having a well-behaved pet increases the enjoyment for you both. Having a properly trained pet means that you can have more fun with that pet. And dog training begins with house breaking puppies. Discover more

One thing that owners have noticed with a Boston terrier is the fact that it can be very sensitive to the tone of a person’s voice. This may be described as a sort of emotion detector. Because of this sensitivity to the tone, a Boston terrier will be able to respond to how you are feeling when you are talking. This means, however, that you need to take great care when training your dog. You need to make sure that anger and frustration do not find their way into your voice.

They also make excellent watchdogs as they do not bark indiscriminately. This means that you won’t wake up in the middle of the night because your Boston terrier saw a butterfly. There are some cases, though, when a Boston terrier will not bark at all.

Regarding the living conditions, Boston terriers can do well enough without a yard as long as they get regular exercise. This means that they are suitable for apartment living. However, you should also know that they are very sensitive to the extremes of weather. This means that you should keep it in a place that’s neither too hot nor too cold.

Unlike other terrier breeds, the Boston terrier is an average shedder. This means that you should be wary of keeping it indoors as it can shed fur over your floor. We all know how much of a fiasco that can be.

Bostons have a variety of common health problems. They easily get overheated when they are pushed too hard. As said before, they can also be sensitive to extreme weather and any weather that’s too hot or too cold can leave them with breathing difficulties. Skin tumors and heart tumors are very common with this breed. So you need to bring the dog to a vet regularly.

Another disorder you should watch out for is a skull defect. If a Boston terrier is badly bred, it often develops a bone defect that prevents the brain from growing. This, naturally, will lead to a retarded dog.

Alternative Energy Sources, the Solution to Global Warming?

by Anthony, of Solar Energy | Solar Panels

Whereas there are some who still state that global warming is a myth, others who state the planet is actually getting colder, and still others assert that global warming is part of a natural cycle and has nothing to do with carbon emissions. While everyone is entitled to their own point of view, it would be nice to have some straight facts that we can all agree upon.

While some people can’t agree on the fact that carbon emissions cause global warming, they can probably at least agree on the fact that carbon emissions are a pollutant, and that they damage the environment. This is a fact that no scientist, on either side of the Global Warming theory, disputes.

It is also true that most carbon emissions are energy related; energy in the form of fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas. These fossil fuels are either used to generate heat or to create electricity for our homes and workplaces; or to power vehicles, airplanes and boats.

So, in order to address carbon emissions we would need to rethink the way we get our energy. Factually, there has been a definite trend towards alternative clean energy. There are many different options actively being researched and developed. Some of the clean energy technologies we are most familiar with include hydroelectric, wind and solar energy.

Hydroelectric power plants have been in use for decades and are a clean sustainable energy source. The only drawback at times is the impact on the environment in the form of diverting the flow of rivers and creating artificial lakes when building the needed dams in order to harness the power of water. This is however far less damaging than carbon emissions and thus a far better solution.

Wind generated electricity has also been in use for decades and is another viable form of clean sustainable energy.

Solar energy has also been in use for quite some time now, but up until recently was only used in specialized cases due to the cost involved in manufacturing solar panels. However with recent developments and breakthroughs in the production of cheaper and more effective solar panels, the solar energy field is rapidly gaining ground.

The only real problems with these clean sustainable energy sources is that they are still only applied on a relatively small scale, and they have been considered have been considered “expensive” sources of energy.

But solar, wind and hydroelectric energy are actually cheaper than fossil fuels. It is only the initial cost of establishing them that is more “expensive”. In the long run, they do recover their initial costs. Once these alternative energy systems have been established, they require very little maintenance and do not require “fuel” in order to operate and generate power.

There is, however, a hidden cost of fossil fuels, which is overlooked. This is the cost incurred in terms of damage done to the environment and to the health of the population who live in heavily polluted areas. This cost is never added up or calculated into the “fuel bill”. However if the cost of the byproducts from burning fossil fuels were to be added up and included on your energy bill, one would be presented with an entirely different picture. One would see that fossil fuels are factually for more costly and expensive than clean sustainable forms of energy (in the form of hydroelectric, wind or solar power).

Luckily, our awareness of these subjects has risen, and more and more people are starting to invest in clean energy sources at the consumer level.

People are starting to use solar heating for their homes, and some even invest in “expensive” electrical solar panels in order to power their homes.

There is also an ever-increasing range of solar powered gadgets available on the market, such as Solar-Powered Battery Chargers, solar emergency kits, solar radios and a host of other electrical devices powered by solar energy.

Digital Wedding Photos: Practical Wedding Guide

Posted on June 14, 2008

Brides and grooms are now enlisting the expertise of professionals to get the best digital wedding photography for their special day. And why not? They would surely want to have the best photo taken so that the memories will be preserved as long as they live.

More and more people are now shifting to the use of digital cameras to take pictures of their wedding. One of the reasons for this is that the quality is better compared to the traditional camera. Another reason is that the photos can be stored not only in their hard-bound albums but also on albums online.

Today, people are more dependent on their computers than ever before. With computers, they can easily upload their wedding pictures and share them with family and friends all over the world. You do not have to rely on snail mails just to send your pictures. They are being sent and viewed the minute you have them in your computer.

This is one of the many advantages of digital photography. If taken properly, you are assured that you and you partner will never regret having used digital photography for your wedding pictures.

Below are some of the tips to get the best digital photography for your wedding.

1. Choose the right background.
Photos can really look great once they are shot with the perfect background. You can use the decorations in the church and in the reception areas as a back draft for your photos. Be sure to fix some scattered decorations so that they will appear simply perfect on photos.

Always remind the photographer to check if the view is good when taking pictures. It does not mean that you have to stand on the same corner or place. The best photographer is able to make even the simplest of background look great on photo if it is taken in the right angle.

2. Look out for any kinds of glass.
Glasses tend to cause reflections in photos. May it be an eyeglass, window or wine glasses. One way or another, they will cause a reflection or brightness to reflect back on the camera it is included in the picture.

To avoid this, the position of the camera can be altered so that it will not directly hit the glass. The photo can be taken sideways or downwards but never on eye level.

3. The perfect timing.
Persons being photographed should not always be looking at the camera. And they do not have to be smiling at the lens too.

One way of doing it is to wait for the right moment so that you can have a candid shot at them. You will see that catching persons on film when they are in their candid state is much better than having them wearing a fixed expression. Candid moments make photos look real and natural.

4. Check each photo.
To maximize the memory that your digital camera has, it is best to review every shot taken. There might be duplicates that can be removed so that you can free more space for a different shot.

You will probably want the best and the maximum number of digital wedding photography shots so you need to make the most of the capacity of the digital camera.

The best wedding photography is made even better now with digital cameras. This is one thing that you definitely should have on your special day.

Time Management Skills And Life Direction With Life Mapping

Posted on June 10, 2008

Success is more than economic gains, titles, and degrees. Planning for success is about mapping out all the aspects of your life. Similar to a map, you need to define the following details: origin, destination, vehicle, backpack, landmarks, and route. See more at get organized now.

Origin: Who you are

A map has a starting point. Your origin is who you are right now. Most people when asked to introduce themselves would say, ìHi, Iím Jean and I am a 17-year old, senior highschool student.î It does not tell you about who Jean is; it only tells you her present preoccupation. To gain insights about yourself, you need to look closely at your beliefs, values, and principles aside from your economic, professional, cultural, and civil status. Moreover, you can also reflect on your experiences to give you insights on your good and not-so-good traits, skills, get organized techniques, knowledge, strengths, and weaknesses. Upon introspection, Jean realized that she was highly motivated, generous, service-oriented, but impatient. Her inclination was in the biological-medical field. Furthermore, she believed that life must serve a purpose, and that wars were destructive to human dignity.

Destination: A vision of who you want to be

ìWho do want to be?î this is your vision. Now it is important that you know yourself so that you would have a clearer idea of who you want to be; and the things you want to change whether they are attitudes, habits, or points of view. If you hardly know yourself, then your vision and targets for the future would also be unclear. Your destination should cover all the aspects of your being: the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. Continuing Jeanís story, after she defined her beliefs, values, and principles in life, she decided that she wanted to have a life dedicated in serving her fellowmen. For more on life meaning visit this link: how to organize your life.

Vehicle: Your Mission

A vehicle is the means by which you can reach your destination. It can be analogized to your mission or vocation in life. To a great extent, your mission would depend on what you know about yourself. Bases on Jeanís self-assessment, she decided that she was suited to become a doctor, and that she wanted to become one. Her chosen vocation was a medical doctor. Describing her vision-mission fully: it was to live a life dedicated to serving her fellowmen as a doctor in conflict-areas.

Travel Bag: Your knowledge, skills, and attitude

Food, drinks, medicines, and other travelling necessities are contained in a bag. Applying this concept to your life map, you also bring with you certain knowledge, skills, and attitudes. These determine your competence and help you in attaining your vision. Given such, there is a need for you to assess what knowledge, skills, and attitudes you have at present and what you need to gain along the way. This two-fold assessment will give you insights on your landmarks or measures of success. Jean realized that she needed to gain professional knowledge and skills on medicine so that she could become a doctor. She knew that she was a bit impatient with people so she realized that this was something she wanted to change.

Landmarks and Route: S.M.A.R.T. objectives

Landmarks confirm if you are on the right track while the route determines the travel time. Thus, in planning out your life, you also need to have landmarks and a route. These landmarks are your measures of success. These measures must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bound. Thus you cannot set two major landmarks such as earning a masterís degree and a doctorate degree within a period of three years, since the minimum number of years to complete a masterís degree is two years. Going back to Jean as an example, she identified the following landmarks in her life map about time management skills: completing a bachelor’s degree in biology by the age of 21; completing medicine by the age of 27; earning her specialization in infectious diseases by the age of 30; getting deployed in local public hospitals of their town by the age of 32; and serving as doctor in war-torn areas by the age of 35. What do you think of time management skills?

Anticipate Turns, Detours, and Potholes

The purpose of your life map is to minimize hasty and spur-of-the-moment decisions that can make you lose your way. But oftentimes our plans are modified along the way due to some inconveniences, delays, and other situations beyond our control. Like in any path, there are turns, detours, and potholes thus; we must anticipate them and adjust accordingly. See more at time management.
