Fur Care Terms and Fur Manufacturing: Drumming is a process used for cleaning furs by abrasion. The fur is tumbled with sawdust soaked in a special solution. The sawdust absorbs dirt and oil and the abrasive action fluffs the fur. Once a year if you use your fur and it need cleaning you should take it to a professional cleaner.
- Flat Furs are furs that have only one type of hair or fur like Seal and Persian Lamb, for example.
- In an attempt to reduce weight and bulk of the fur, the technique of shearing is employed, all the while making new designs and patterns in the pile of fur. Shearing is but one way to refurbish your fur cost into a lighter, more fashionable garment.
- Grooving is a kind of shearing technique that produces a stripe pattern. The stripes or grooves are different in width and depth, and the end-result resembles corduroy. Cording is another way to say grooving.
- Shearling is natural lamb fur. The leather half is typically sueded and worn on the exterior with the fur side turned inward for warmth. Today, Shearling coats and jackets are more lightweight due to improved ways of tanning as well as dying suede leather.
- Knitted Fur is made of fur yarn. This knittable yarn is manufactured by combining narrow strips of fur with silk or cotton yarn. Fur yarn can also be crocheted or weaved to produce all sorts of objects. Surprisingly enough there are some knitted fur products that can actually be washed in the washing machine.
Fur that is sheared will in fact keep you as warm as fur that has not been sheared. Fur has two main layers. The first is the underfur, which is the layer closest to the skin and has short, dense wool hair. The second one is the guard hair, which is at the top and has longer and straighter hair. Shearing only trims the Guard hair, but the Ground hair, which acts as insulation, is what determines the warmth of a fur. The guard hairs include the majority of the fur’s coloration and imbue the assorted furs with their unique traits. Some furs also have a middle layer of hair called Awn hair.
- Generally, long hair furs do not provide any more warmth than short hair furs. The warmth of fur is determined by Ground hair.
- Female mink furs are typically lighter in weight, softer, silkier, shinier and more pliable than male mink furs. Female mink is usually used in the styles which have soft tailoring and draping. A skin from a male mink can be used for a different item with a less supple style. Male mink garments are not automatically cheaper than female mink garments.
- The best and most exquisite fur products do not contain any leather. When more leather is used to place the strips of fur together, the value of the garment goes down much more.
Recent Market Trends: The Fur industry no longer experiences the damages of the 1980s through the early 1990s, due to different factors in the economy and a weakened anti-fur campaign. The fur industry is recovering – fast.
- Three main factors have contributed to the renewed growth of the industry: an unprecedented increase in demand for fur products by the growing middle class, or nouveaux riches. There is a decline in China and Russia as for the fur industry which use to produce around 15% of the USSR’s yearly revenue as well as the western fashion industry’s rediscovery of all fur garments.
- The Russian manufactured fur industry today produces 7 times fewer furs than in the 1980’s. Leading the list of international fur-manufacturing you will find North America and Europe. Trailing at the bottom of the list you will find Russia. Russia’s production in the worldwide fur market has seen a major drop in since the 1980’s, dropping from 35% to less than 5%. Skyrocketing demand as well as a drop in domestic production has promoted Russian imports up to 30% of quality fur products.
- China is churning furs from North America into garments for resale back to the Americas and Russia. Mass production in Chinese fur farms, supported by the state, negatively affects Russian fur production. When the Soviet Union collapsed many of the fur farms in Russia went down with it. The Russian fur manufacturers are not able to compete with the western players as they are not finding avenues to reduce their expenses.
- The ailing Russian fur trade may suffer further as a result of recent events in Georgia. Due to Russia’s intervention in Georgia, the economy suffered billions of dollars being withheld for commerce. The areas that were part of this incident are some of the biggest purchasers of fur worldwide.
- The top three cities where one can purchase fur garments are Dubai, Shanghai and Moscow.
Active Adult Retirement Community – Enjoying And Loving Retirement

The last few years have witnessed radical changes in the way senior people have approached life in general. Not so long ago, senior people usually concerned themselves with thoughts of retirement and having a restful, calm and somewhat passive life. This kind of thinking, however, is all history now! An increasing number of senior people are realizing that much still remains to be done and enjoyed. And the best time to start enjoying these is now, when there is still time.
This is the fundamental idea behind active retirement communities. It brings together seniors having the same interests who can pair up and have a great time together. Senior men and women who are above 55 years of age are qualified to join such a community. The remaining years can now be enjoyed to the content of one’s heart.
By joining these communities, members can participate in various exciting activities such as biking, hiking, boating, swimming, golf, fishing and a whole lot more. There is virtually no end to the possibilities. It is worth remembering, however, that different communities cater to different interest groups, and hence, one must choose with care. Keep in mind that some communites might not have the facilities for all kinds of interests or activities.
A few years back, senior homes were mostly to be found in the states of Florida and Arizona only. The present scenario, however, is a far cry from all that and has active living retirement communities popping up all over the United States. However you have to decide whether you are more comfortable in joining local communities and staying close to your friends and relatives in the same state, or whether you would rather go away to a different state and lead the life you have always wanted to.
Becoming a member of one of these communities is a great way to ensure a healthy life. When you stay active, your physical health as well as your mental health stays fit. There are some seniors who have some doubts whether they can still take all this at an advanced age. One need not worry as there are professional caregivers to look after every member as well as also monitor his or her health.
There is a lot of choice out there as builders are making communities to house an excess of seventy-five million aging boomers. One just has to zero in on the right community for joining.
Lower Your Monthly Grocery Budget

Angel Food Ministries has been helping people nationwide cut down their monthly food budget since 1994! In today’s economy, for many they are an answer to prayer.
We began running Angel Food Ministries out of our church, here in the greater New Bedford area (Massachusetts) in October of 2008. To be completely honest, when I heard you received enough food to feed a family of four for a week for only $30.00 I was a bit skeptical. When I saw the Angel Food menu for the month: steak, chicken, ground turkey, beef patties with gravy, manicotti, beans, a variety of vegetables, eggs, muffin mix, oatmeal, and the list went on – I was even more skeptical. What quality of food was this for only $30.00? Fatty meats? Vegetables in dented cans? Out dated packages? My husband and I are fussy when it comes to feeding our family, and if lowering our food budget meant serving them low-gradeleftover food, we weren’t interested.
At the recommendation of people we trusted, we decided to give one Angel Food box a try. Wow! What a surprise! Mouth watering steaks, individually freeze-dried and packaged; no fat on these! Flash-frozen chicken breasts! Frozen vegetables, just like the supermarket! Chicken Flavored Rice & Vermicelli; just like the ‘name-brand’! Blueberry muffin mix; one of my favorites! This was all top quality food, easily costing $60-$80 at the grocery mart, and we paid only $30! That was cutting our grocery bill!
Last month we ordered the regular Angel Food box for $30.00 and added a ‘Special’ Angel Food box of fresh fruit and vegetables for only $21.00 (potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, oranges, grapefruit, celery, 2 different kinds of apples, and more)! What a blessing and what an opportunity to be a blessing! Imagine being able to bring $100+ of top quality groceries to a neighbor or a friend who may be struggling right now, introduce them to Angel Food Minitries and help them to begin lowering their monthly food budget!
The Angel Food menu changes every month and there is no limit on the number of boxes or specials you can order. That means big food budget cuts! There are no income restraints and many of the Angel Food host sites accept EBT cards along with cash, checks and credit cards. But be sure to check your closest host site, because it does vary.
Angel Food Ministries operates across the country, with several host sites in churches across almost every state! You can find the Angel Food host site closest to you just by filling in your zip code online. You can even order online! Angel Food orders are taken at host churches on designated dates and times during the month. Payment is due with your order. The complete Angel Food order is dropped off at the host church for pick up once a month.
Oh! Almost forgot. In three months, the Angel Food boxes ordered from our local church have tripled!

Do you love to surf? Then you know that there is simply nothing better than experiencing the thrill of the best, the strongest, and the longest waves out there. So strong is the pull of great waves that most surfers are willing to travel significant distances just to have the opportunity to catch waves they would never find at home. A great way to find these waves is to go surf in Chicama Peru. Why? Because Chicama has the longest waves in the world (seriously, they go on for miles). This surf paradise also boasts amazing weather for surfers; it’s never too hot or too cold off the coast of Peru, and you’ll find that it’s rarely rainy.
Interested in a surf spot that’s a bit more specific? This one is popular for good reason. Close to Tujillo, you can find some of the most perfect waves in Chicama. You’ll definitely find that there is a solid selection of great hotels and resorts to stay in at the surfing “mecca” of Chicama. You may want to make sure that you are booking your reservations well in advance though as this is a location that can get a little busy. There can be problems with overall safety and access depending on where you want to surf so it is certainly in your best interests to do some online research beforehand. This is a chicama surf resort that you want to have well thought out and planned so that you will be able to make the most of every minute there.
When it comes to surfing, it doesn’t matter so much where you end up going so long as you stay safe and continue to enjoy the outstanding surf. Whenever you’re abroad, whether touring in Europe or surfing in Peru, be friendly to the locals and they will be friendly in turn. Allow yourself a few days so that you don’t feel rushed and you will not forget the trip. It will be money and time well spent. But be careful not to get carried away by those notoriously strong Chicama winds; at up to 20 miles per hour, Chicama winds make windsurfing easy and very fun, if that’s something you’d like to try.
If you are looking for the perfect vacation spots that are meant for those with hearts set on surfing then Peru is the place to be. With Chicama having such incredible conditions, you will soon learn why it is a popular place for surfers. Enjoy the surf or simply relax on the beach, Peru is a place you do not want to pass up. Hybrid Biking Commuting

Many people, myself included, are stressed out more by their commute to work or school than their actual occupation. The average American spends countless hours each week driving to work whether in their own car, a carpool, bus, metro, or train usually congested with vehicles and people. If you live within 20 minutes of your place of work, I have a solution for you that will not only make you healthier, but transform your stress-filled commute to a stress busting workout.
If you have not figured it out by now, you should be biking to work. Take your 8 mile commute in rush hour traffic – you average 15 miles per hour because of bumper- to- bumper traffic and a 10 minute drive winds up taking almost a half hour. This can be incredibly frustrating especially when you calculate the money spent on parking and gas while sitting gridlocked on a beltway. Instead, you could be pedaling steadily in the designated bike lane or shoulder and taking about the same amount of time to get to work. While your car-driving brethren are stuck trying to get around that pesky truck that is double parked in the curb lane, you carefully check your blind spots and ride right by while burning up to 700 calories per hour. Imagine that, you get your daily exercise needs while performing a regular daily task.
Hybrid bike commuting is ideal for urban and town settings where traffic is overwhelming and prohibitive. I have been an urban cyclist for almost ten years and have no regrets. It began when I was going to college in Washington DC and could not afford a car but I hated the amount of time it took to walk different places. I quickly rediscovered my childhood love of cycling and bought a new mountain bike. I took the bike to class, to work, or even to the grocery store and my trips took about 1/4 of the time because I was able to move so quickly through traffic. I still continue to bike regularly through the city, although now it is for fitness and leisure but I still get a kick out of being able to get from Union Station to Foggy Bottom in less than 20 minutes during rush hour while that may take over twice as long in a car. Just please remember to be safe and use proper safety equipment since automobiles generally are not on the lookout for cyclists.
Hybrid bicycling is ideal for commuting because they are typically more comfortable and have the best features from both mountain bikes and road bikes. There are different types of Hybrid bike ranging from the most comfortable cruiser, a vacation spot favorite, to the fast and agile touring bike. There are also recumbent and fold-up bikes for maximum convenience.
The best part is that you can also use your bike on the weekends to take a stroll through a park with friends or family or on your vacation. It can also be used for low impact fitness, without all of the wear and tear on your knees, legs, and back that can be caused by running or other fitness activities.
Why You Ought To Tour Malaysia

Malaysia, located just above the Equator, is a country in South-East Asia. It is divided into West and East Malaysia separated by the South China Sea.
It’s a very tourist-friendly with delicious food and exciting places to visit all over the country. Malaysians are among the warmest people you will find anywhere. In Malaysia, you can experience diverse cultures of the various people groups. The main ethnic groups are Malays, Chinese and Indians in West Malaysia and Kadazans and Ibans in East Malaysia.
For example, it is a custom for Malays to point at someone with the thumb instead of the index finger. Pointing with the index finger is deemed impolite.
As far as food is concerned, Malaysia is a haven. All sorts of dishes are easily found. Rice is the staple diet for Malaysians but each people group has its own styles of cooking. The Malays and Indians love spicy food so much of their cooking has curry and chilli. Some examples of fine Malay dishes are Nasi Kandar and Satay. The Indians are famous for their Tosai and Roti Canai. On the other hand, the Chinese like their soup and noodles besides rice so their cooking is more bland compared to the Malays and Indians. Some of the favorite Chinese dishes include Koay Teow soup and Bak Kut Teh.
Malaysia has many interesting places to visit. If you love the city attractions, big Malaysian cities like Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching offer shopping and dining comparative to any other city in the world. Kuala Lumpur is famous for the Petronas Towers, the tallest building in the world up to 2002. Attached to the Petronas Towers is the elegant Suria KLCC shopping mall, one of the many top-class shopping centers in Kuala Lumpur. Petaling Jaya, another city just 7 miles away from Kuala Lumpur, has many shopping destinations, too. One of them is Sunway Pyramid that houses Malaysia’s only ice skating ring and the popular Sunway Lagoon Theme Park.
For recreation, you can head up to the cool atmosphere of Genting Highlands.
This is the site of Malaysia’s only casino and another huge theme park. The Genting City of Entertainment hosts many international artistes. Among those that have performed there recently include Celine Dion, Tony Orlando and The Osmonds. Kuala Lumpur is home to the world’s largest free-flight walk-in aviary at the KL Bird Park. The Park has over 3,000 of the most interesting birds. You will also find the Aquaria and Petrosains Center in Suria KLCC.
As the names suggest, these are KL’s aquarium and science center respectively.
For those who like to rough it out under more rugged conditions, try Sarawak’s homestay program where you can spend 2 or 3 days living in a tribal longhouse.
Alternatively, try climbing Mount Kinabalu in Sabah which is the highest mountain in South-East Asia. Wildlife enthusiasts can head up to Sabah’s Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary to see the endangered Oran Utans in their natural environment. If you wish to stay in 5-star conditions in the middle of the tropical rainforest, then go to Sabah’s Sukau Lodge and take a river cruise down the Kinabatangan River. You get to see live monkeys and other small mammals living in their natural environment. The experience is like no other.
Estimating Utility Bills: How Much Is Excessive?
Posted on January 25, 2009
Filed Under Saving Money | Leave a Comment
Given the state of the economy, just about all of us have become a lot more aware of the need to be energy conscious, which often results in searching for creative means of lowering our energy costs.
But no matter how good we may become at this, it seems our utility bills just continue to climb. As the cost of energy rises, you may need to begin asking yourself how much is too much for utilities and what’s actually affordable.
How much should I be spending on utilities?
That’s going to depend on where you live and how big your home is. For example, the average home in Hawaii pays almost 25 cents for every kilowatt hour it uses, while that price is only 7 cents in Idaho.
Now, the average US family household uses about 8,900 kilowatt hours in a year, meaning a homeowner in Hawaii would pay roughly $2225 a year in energy utilities while that same homeowner in Idaho would only pay $623.
If you’re running the air conditioner all day or heating an empty swimming pool, those costs are obviously going to be higher. On the other hand, if you’re conserving energy, you’ll also be conserving funds.
Ideally, you want your utilities expenditure to be absolutely no more than 10 percent of your gross income. Unfortunately, this isn’t always possible for low-income families or people living on fixed incomes. In that case, look to your county social services for rebate and subsidization programs that can help save you money.
How can I lower the cost of my utilities?
Start by investing in energy-efficient appliances. The initial cost of an Energy Star rated appliance may be higher, but it will pay for itself in just a few short years and continue to save you money throughout the course of its life.
Next, look to your insulation. Poor insulation is the biggest culprit for loss of heat or conditioned air. Check your attic, basement, garages floors and exterior walls for proper insulation levels, and replace and maintain your insulation as needed.
Finally, look into having an energy audit done on your home. Energy audits are done by certified inspectors and can often be subsidized by your power company or local county office.
An auditor will inspect your home looking for energy leaks and ways you can decrease your energy consumption. Following up on his or her suggestions could save you hundreds of dollars every year, and the benefits begin almost immediately.

Having lived in Salisbury for some time I feel I am extremely lucky that I have so many fantastic walks and ancient sites to look at whether its Stonehenge, the fantastic walkways ways that crisscross huge tracts of Wiltshire’s gorgeous countryside, or the beautiful Sarum castle which hosts jousting and re-enactments at different times of year.
Wiltshire is also place of the Salisbury International Arts Festival at the end of May through to the beginning of June which always has some fantastic performances and activities lined up for anyone needing to take part. If you are able to travel however and can’t wait until then I know there is the Budapest Spring Festival approaching at the end of March first week in April that would be of worth a look at an equally dramatic historical city.
Wiltshire is known for its walks and biking tracks with some fantastic scenery to travel through. One of the roman roads carries you most of the way down to Devon which lets anyone on a shoe string to get on their cycle and ride. As we steadily move towards spring time the number of gorgeous hot air balloons flying through the sky grows, with most offering the ability of people hiring a place for a ride.
There are many picturesque villages around Wiltshire with village community life taking a hand in how the areas develop, this makes sure that there is always something going on in the area. Its worth checking local newspapers to discover Whats on in Wiltshire, or going on the net and checking one of the many community information sites online.
The historical side of Salisbury and the surrounding area has been even more enhanced by the efforts of the fantastic archaeological team that is based on the outskirts of Salisbury. With one of its people on the team of the well known “Time Team” from channel 4, they are slowly stripping back the layers hiding what has been before us. several of their finds can be seen in the Salisbury Museum which has a brilliant collection of historical items.
You can find facts about the area by popping into the Salisbury Visitor Information centre and speaking to the people there, they will provide you with information on things that are occurring at the time, or put you in the right direction if you want to see certain items in the area. As I said in the beginning of this article I am very lucky to be in Wiltshire and only advise that you discover what is accessible before you come so that you can give yourself enough time.

On the other hand, the one-hour Dorn method (Php2,500) is a German healing method available exclusively at Mogambo Springs. It is a holistic manual therapy that is gentle on the joints and vertebrae and helps many forms of physical discomforts like stiffness, back and neck pains, pelvic and lower body pains and general stress.
The highlight of the Plantation Bay Resort spa packages is the six-hour and 30 minutes Ultimate Mogambo Springs Experience (Php8,800), which premises maximum pampering with a pool massage, a body scrub, a foot therapy, a facial treatment of choice, an aromatherapy oil massage and a hot oil treatment and nail care in a private treatment room.
