So if you’re going to this year’s US Open golf tournament in Farmingdale, New York, then read on for some great tips and hints on where to stay, how to get around and fun things to do in the area.

About Bethpage State Park

The 2009 US Open is being held at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York. The park has five golf courses that are not only world class, but also public. The Open happens on the Black Course, an incredibly challenging course that has hosted the Open and other tournaments before.

In addition to golf, you can also enjoy hiking, biking, trail riding and tennis at Bethpage.

Hotels and Accommodations in Farmingdale

Farmingdale is a small community, but there are numerous hotels and lodging facilities all within 30 miles of the Black Course and Bethpage State Park. These include the following.

Courtyard Republic Airport Long Island

This Marriott hotel is the closest hotel to the US Open and serves both Farmingdale and Melville. The rooms are decent and the hotel offers a 24-hour fitness facility, free wireless Internet, and an outdoor patio and fire pit for guests. During the Open, the hotel will be operating shuttle services to and from the course.

Hilton Long Island

This beautifully appointed Hilton is located in Melville, just a short drive away from the Black Course. The hotel is full service and offers a number of amenities, but it’s predominantly targeted toward conferences and business travelers. Expect lots of conference space, free wireless and plenty of meeting rooms.

Fourpoints by Sheraton Plainview, Long Island

Newly renovated and just 20 minutes from the course, this Sheraton Four Points hotel is new, fresh and modern. The hotel offers a fitness facility, wireless Internet, 24-hour front desk and concierge assistance, free parking, room service and shuttles to and from the US Open.

Fun Stuff in Farmingdale

Farmingdale has a lot more to offer visitors than the US Open. If you’re traveling with your family, check out the nearby amusement park – AdventureLand. Alternatively, you can take a drive to the Hamptons and explore its beaches and incredible restaurants and nightlife.

Traveling to Farmingdale

Unless you’re flying by private jet, the closest airport to Farmingdale is La Guardia. The drive typically takes about 40 minutes, but can be as long as 70 to 80 minutes in bad traffic. Limit your traffic time by trying to get a flight that lands earlier in the day.

Getting US Open Tickets

If you’re planning to attend the US Open golf tournament, you must first submit an application for a random drawing. The deadline for applications has already passed. If you do not have a ticket, you may be able to purchase at the gate or obtain them through a third-party vendor.
