A Reason Why Nobody Over The Age Of 35 Should Ever Have Refractive Surgery

If you are nearsighted and approaching your mid thirties and considering refractive surgery, please read this. I did not listen to the warnings and now I am forever attached to my reading glasses. I was a couple years away from presbyopia and mildly nearsighted, Lasik surgery gave me about 3 years of good vision and now I am mildly hyperopic and need reading glasses.
What I hear is that if I never had refractive surgery this would not be the case. As a previous contact lens user, it would have been extremely simple for me to upgrade from single vision lenses to multivision contact lenses. However, because surgery has altered the shape of my corneas soft contacts do not work as well.
And when I was nearsighted, I could always read comfortably and clearly without my lenses. So reading a book or magazine in bed was always clear. Now I need glasses to put on makeup!
Overall I think refractive surgery is a wonderful procedure for those who understand what it does. I would absolutely love it if I had it done when I was twenty-two, all I am saying is that waiting until you are in your late thirties and mildly myopic is a mistake.
Ask your doctor about an honest opinion. And if you have are looking for the latest in multifocal contacts ask about synergyes.
This latest version of the synergyes hybrid contact lens is only available to people who have mostly regular corneas, and a an eyeglasses Rx of +4.00 to -4.00 with minimal astigmatism. As with any lens, each candidate must be evaluated on a case per case basis. If you are outside of those parameters, don’t despair. Their are plenty of other successful multifocal lens designs out there. The best of luck with your eyes and your vision.
