Lighting techniques and methods have changed over time. Nowadays, the nature of the building determines the type of the lighting method used in the buildings. The primary function of lighting remains the same for most people: provide enough light to improve the visibility. In the olden days, decorative lighting was something only the kings and the extremely rich of the era could afford. A sea if change occurred to the idea of lighting when electricity was invented. The electrical accessories such as bulbs and tubes replaced the candlelights. However, many people preferred the old lighting sources like chandeliers and other artistic light sources. For them, these elegant accessories served two purposes: provide light to the building and provide glamour to the interior of the building. As the years went by, more and more number of lighting devices have been introduced. Because of this heavy inflow of a stunning range of lighting designs and models, the ordinary people also began to fancy the idea of artistic lighting in homes.
Nowadays, the modern, attractive lighting has no longer been limited to royal palaces and presidential houses. At present, there are a mind-boggling array of lighting products available in the market. A person only needs money and patience for selecting a particular kind of lighting to light up the house.
Lighting techniques can be divided into two categories. The first one is downlighting. In this form of lighting, which is perhaps the most common method, the sources of light are attached to the ceiling or to the top part of the walls. The second one is uplighting. In this form of lighting, which is not as frequent as the downlighting method, light sources are fixed at the ground level, facing upwards as the name indicates. There are other sub-categories of lighting also. These categories are based on the basic function of the lighting. In task lighting, an area is specifically lighted up for performing a particular task, for example, reading or cooking. Accent lighting provides optimum light for decorative items like a painting or a plant. Common type of lighting, that is, lighting implemented without any specific purpose other than providing light belongs to the classification of general lighting.
There are a number of forms of lighting employed today. Some of the prominent methods are alcove lighting, which include fluorescent lighting and neon lighting, soffit lighting, which is a kind of decorative lighting, recessed lighting, and track lighting. Another evergreen variety for elegant lighting is classic and contemporary chandeliers. A cchandelier is a highly attractive decorative light that can be attached to a ceiling. This is a lighting device that is still very much sought after because most people believe that chandeliers provide a royal look to their building. Different varieties of cchandeliers such as candle beam, Venetian, candle nozzle, canopy, cage, corona, crown, crystal, Dutch, finial, molded, and prism chandeliers are available in the market. Modern innovative lighting techniques like LED lighting and crystal LED lighting are also increasingly used for providing artistic lighting.
