Gambling, like any sport or recreational activity, should be fun and entertaining. But when players get out of control, they become addicted to it, and then it becomes a financial roadblock. In some cases, it destroys personal relationships, professions - basically, a person’s whole life.

If you enjoy horse racing or any other form of gambling, here are a few helpful guidelines to help you keep a safe distance from bankruptcy and gambling addiction:

Keep Your Expectations Low

Do not prep yourself up to win. Even if you’ve analyzed your bet according to your new horse racing system or your dad’s horse racing tip, you can’t be too confident. Gambling is always uncertain. Keeping your hopes low will only keep future disappointments at bay. Setting a loss limit before you place your bets is also a smart idea, while sticking to it is even better.

Never Borrow Money for Gambling

Borrowing money will wreck your budget, so Determine a manageable loss limit to keep you from doing this. Every gambler should understand that borrowing money from others in order to bet is a danger sign that tells you that you’re going down the path to gambling addiction.

Never Take Gambling Too Seriously

If you’re not a jockey, a horse trainer, or a card dealer, you have no business being at racetracks or at casinos everyday. Don’t skip work, classes, or any another significant events just so you can play. If you take gambling too seriously, it will end up running your whole life.

When you are at the tracks or at casinos, make sure you socialize with acquaintances and other people around you. Who knows? You might even meet a future business partner or a future wife? After all, it’s all about chances, right? Just make it a point that you don’t argue about gambling with your new friends.

You must also establish a maximum time limit, which will determine how long you can stay at a gambling event.

Never Play When You’re Stressed

Yes, for most people, gambling is a great method of relieving stress. But if you have the tendency to over-indulge yourself, stay away from any form of gambling. You could end up with a bigger problem than you probably already have.

Never Chase After Your Losses

A mature gambler should know how to accept a loss. Chasing after your losses will probably cost you more, which might leave you in a stack of debt
