Your Keys to Finding the Most Advantageous Vacation Rentals

Finding the best vacation rentals is all about knowing what you want, being willing to put in the search time, tapping your resources and booking early. Keep reading for some tips and hints that will show you how to find the best vacation rentals for your next trip away from home.
Location is Key
If you have your heart set on a summer spent in a vacation villa on the lake, then a mountainside ski chalet 50 miles from a body of water isn’t going to cut it.
Alternatively, if you’re dreaming of a holiday spent traversing the canals of Venice or other international locations, you’re not going to be too happy in a cabin in Montana. When it comes to vacation planning, settling for something less than a fulfilling location can put a damper on the entire experience.
Before you start shopping for vacation rentals, make a list of your preferred destinations and the nearby or on-site amenities you and your family are looking for.
Once you’ve narrowed down the location, whether for a vacation within the continental US or elsewhere, you’re halfway there. You’ll be able to track down property owners and rental management firms while you increasingly focus your search.
Know Where to Look
If you’re not searching through an estate agent or travel rental company, try renting directly from property owners. Websites like RedWeek (redweek.com) list vacation properties and even time shares that are rented and advertised by individual property owners.
While you may not find quite the professional service that a managed property comes with, you’ll often obtain a discounted price and a stronger personal relationship with your prospective landlord. The personal touch you receive can enhance your overall enjoyment.
If you’re trying to save money, consider sharing a vacation rental with another family. Either rent it for a month and split the time or share the rental simultaneously. Just be certain that you don’t put a great friendship at risk by spending so much time together!
Tap Your Personal Resources
Finding the best vacation rentals is about more than searching online or checking the newspaper for listings. Try your personal connections to find a great property this summer.
Send out an email to family, friends and neighbors outlining what you’re looking for. Someone might know of a great property that fits your description and is going unused that week, month, or even for an entire season.
However, before you engage in a business transaction with friends and family, make sure you’ve both thought through the arrangement and have a clear, written agreement. Again, back to preserving that friendship as a high priority.
Book Early
Admittedly, last minute deals can be found. However, if you have your heart set on a particular list of amenities in a popular vacation spot, you should book early to help ensure you are able to lock it in. Many returning tenants reserve their rentals a year or more in advance, leaving new guests competing for space.
Consider that if you keep returning to the same vacation rental, you’ll eventually move up in the rental hierarchy - able to secure the best weeks and even negotiate better rates with owners who have gotten to know and trust you.
Do You Want To Be Spoiled By Your Credit Card Too?

I just ordered a Visa card and I’m astonished that I could have lived all these years without Visa credit card.
A Visa card is just that easy: I use it every week and have saved me a lot of euros already. How, do you ask? Well, instead of walking to the consumer electronics store around the corner, I search on the net: compare prices, service, shipping, and so forth. After that I can often pick out that saves me several euros.
Another way my creditcard adds value to my life is through free bonuses: the Visa company often mails me checks due to the fact that I use my creditcard so often. And when I’m off traveling, I don’t need an additional travel insurance anymore: my creditcard takes care of that.
Should I lose my luggage, my flight arrives later, have to go to the hospital… I can receive a money sum without much of a hassle.
So it’s definitely worth the energy to look for a Visa card that fits you personally. A great start are the Visa card information sites: such a site is “Kredietkaart Info” aimed at Dutch speakers. And don’t have to be scared that you will be stuck to your Visa! You can cancel itanytime.
How Car Leasing Can Help Customers Save Fuel Prices In The Uk
Posted on May 30, 2008
Filed Under Personal Finances | Leave a Comment
Truck drivers in the UK have staged a protest at the rising cost of diesel fuel, at the same time as speculation mounted about a government rethink on road tax for older vehicles.
Hundreds of HGV drivers protested in London and a two-mile line of lorries crawled along the M4 towards Cardiff. To put this into context two miles of lorries amounts to around 400 lorries.
Haulage companies and owner operators say that diesel prices topping 130p a litre, plus the planned 2p fuel tax rise, will drive companies and owner operators out of business. In some areas diesel is closer to £1.40 a litre.
Meanwhile, government ministers said Alistair Darling was “listening” to fears over plans to raise vehicle excise duty. Well Darling the British public are approaching the point of revolt over fuel costs and yet all the UK Government can do is “listen” and state that they “understand”. Today on the 29th of May 2008 Gordon Brown, the UK prime minister met with oil chiefs in Scotland to tell them to find cheaper sources of oil and to increase production. This is most definitely the pot calling the kettle black. Mr Brown is merely creating a smokescreen and a scapegoat for the UK having some of the highest fuel prices in the world. What he conveniently forgets is that close to 65% of the cost of a litre of fuel in the UK is actually tax, taxes implemented and enforced by Mr Brown’s government. Perhaps MR Brown should stop pointing the finger at others as three fingers always point back. There is a great site on the net called www.petrolprices.com, have a look there for more information on how much of the cost of your fuel is actually tax. How high does the price of a litre of fuel have to go before the people say NO?
2007 Fuel Tax Figures
2007 fuel duty (as of 1 October 2007) in the United Kingdom is:
• 50.35 pence per litre for ultra-low sulphur unleaded petrol/diesel
• 53.65 pence per litre for conventional unleaded petrol
• 56.94 pence per litre for conventional diesel
• 30.35 pence per litre for bio-diesel and bio ethanol - low tax to encourage consumer conversion
• 16.49 pence per kg for gas other than natural gas (LPG)
• 13.70 pence per kg for natural gas used as road fuel.
• 9.69 pence per litre for rebated gas oil (red diesel)
• 9.29 pence per litre for rebated fuel oil
The government is planning to increase road tax on older, more polluting vehicles, and next week the chancellor will meet Labour MPs opposed to the plan.
So far, 42 MPs have signed a Commons motion asking him to reconsider the policy on the grounds that it is retrospective and therefore “unfair” to people who have already bought their cars. Could this be a similar disaster to the 10p tax allowance abolition by the UK government?
If the proposed 2p per litre increase comes to fruition then perhaps car leasing and car leasing are the way forward for businesses and private motorists. This method of funding will cost customers around one third less compared to traditional hire purchase monthly payment. The road tax is also included in the monthly rental when you lease, this means you can ditch your old car and take a brand new one instead at what will probably be a lower overall annual cost.
Blockades On The Horizon
While the chancellor cannot control global oil prices, hauliers want an “essential user” duty rebate on fuel of between 20p and 25p a litre to ease competition with foreign haulage companies.
Mike Greene, leader of the protests in Wales, told the BBC that, unless the government agreed to the rebate within seven days, lorries would blockade refineries and ports.
Peter Carroll, from Trans-Action 2007 which organised the London protest, said he did not condone blockades, but found it “hard to condemn them”, given how much hauliers were suffering.
The BBC’s environment analyst, Roger Harrabin, said it was family-run, small and medium-sized firms that were worst hit.
He said large companies were able to raise their rates to absorb higher fuel costs and could also more easily pass on the pain of price rises to consumers.
Real Cost Of Living
More and more families are now finding it hard to make ends meet, house repossessions are at some of the highest levels ever seen. The average food shopping bill is up by around £20 per week compared to six months ago. Whilst people may see this as a direct result in fuel prices, that the haulage companies are charging more to deliver this is actually not the case. Most haulage companies are tied into contracts with the supermarkets at set prices for two-three years. So who exactly is raising the food prices? I’ll leave you to make your own mind up on that one.
‘Real crisis’
Organisers had hoped as many as 1,000 lorries would take part in the protest in London, but Peter Carroll, from Trans-Action, said the turnout was about 500. Police put the figure at 300.

Ways to Reduce Cholesterol
Lower Cholesterol
One thing that we all should watch is our cholesterol. Lowering our bad cholesterol can be done with your diet or medication. The first thing you should do is find out about cholesterol and the effects it has on your body. This article will give you much needed information on what you should do and know about this subject.
There are many ways that you can go about to not only eliminate but to reduce the cholesterol in your diet. Sometimes we think that because we are not going to gain weight that we are okay. Many of us have high metabolism, however that doesn’t mean that we are in good shape. We can look good but eating a bunch of fat filled junk will boost that cholesterol level up real quick.
Just because you are looking good on the outside doesn’t mean that your blood is clear on the inside. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you are not going to have problems with your blood and cholesterol. Don’t just look on the outside because the inside of our bodies is what will tell all. We need to be aware that because this is high paced, live life in the fast lane, America’s burgers and fries are tasty and all but not good at all. There needs to be balance in our diets and if we can’t maintain a balanced diet then there are ways to get rid of the cholesterol that takes us over.
We can go on a detox to eliminate the nasty toxins that our body harbors in our colon as well as our blood streams. There are many things that we can do to rid these toxins and it can be extremely simple and easy to do as well.
Minimize your cholesterol by eating better and healthier foods or adding green to your life as well. There are many ways that you can reduce your cholesterol and your body will love you for it. It will not only reduce your over all cholesterol but it will also clean your system out completely.
Drink plenty of water and natural juices. This keeps your blood clear and also helps your kidneys and liver function properly. What we see on the outside will not necessarily mean that it is that way on the inside. There are many thin people in the world who are suffering from high cholesterol due to unhealthy, fatty foods. Treat your body to a detox diet about two times a year and remember to try to add some green to your life, always.
Remember when dealing with any medical problems that you should get a doctor to give you advice as well. Even if you choose a natural treatment your doctor should still be informed and help you understand this topic in greater detail.
Getaway To California A Great Tourism Hot Spot

It’s been asserted that people who are drawn to California for their vacation travel have somewhat of an underlying hope to “become Californian,” even if only during the short time of their traveling experience in the state. Whether that might be true or not, the state of California has created a website that has a vast amount of travel and tourism information. It is an excellent resource for anyone with a true desire to become a “temporary Californian.”
The state of California has an official department, or commission, that is structured to help promote and encourage people to travel throughout the vast state to take in all of the sights and wonders of the many tourist attraction destinations. It is the California Travel and Tourism Commission, or CTTC, which began promoting the idea of calling getaway vacation visitors “Honorary Californians” to make California the ideal getaway destination.
The essential idea of this nomenclature is to encourage tourists to do much more than just visit the various tourist destinations. Instead, the California Travel and Tourism Commission wants vacationers to embrace the full experience of California’s easygoing, laid-back lifestyle and soak up the culture just like a local.
The CTTC has put together an extensive website. The impressive online presence is an attempt to compete aggressively for the attention of those planning to travel and who are looking for vacation ideas, for the ideal family vacation and great tourist destinations. They have provided an online tourism and travel guide that is intended to help potential visitors to the state to fall in love with the destination even before they arrive.
The CTTC website has gone a long way in accomplishing this goal by giving the website visitor a great deal of information about the “must see” tourist attraction options, as well as highlighting the many world renowned landmarks around the state. And, if that were not enough, there is also extensive revelations about “inside scoops” that further give people insights about where to go and what to see to make the vacation travel visitor feel even more connected and like a Californian, honorary or not.
And, true to the very image of style, fun and uniqueness, the state’s website provides all of this information, and much more, in a way that is visually appealing, engaging, and fun. This approach certainly helps to set the stage for the California experience and helps to draw people in and retain their attention. In the highly competitive world of travel tourism, this is very important and the consensus is that the CTTC has done a very good job at providing a compelling tourist guide.
From where to gingerly sip a trendy drink at a casual Los Angeles hideaway, to catching the rays on a sun-baked San Diego beach, to soaking up the high life at a posh Napa Valley spa, the California Travel and Tourism Commission’s website, at visitcalifornia.com, has captured and cataloged the local California hotspots and revealed hidden state treasures. For travelers who like to pre-plan their itinerary, the site even offers an extensive menu of trip ideas, complete with Google maps.
Peak District Holidays - Buxton

Buxton in the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire has always been a favourite Peak District luxury accommodation destination but is well known for a number of different reasons as well. Not least of which is the fact that is the highest town of its size in the UK.
Buxton’ s surrounding hillside has been populated since the beginning of mans existence probably due to the sheltered offered in some parts and potentially for the fact that high ground was always considered safer to ward of incursion invasions from neighbouring tribes and ancient factions.
The existence of ancient places of celebration and gathering have dated back over three thousand years before the arrival Of the Romans to the area in around 70 AD.
The Romans established the original settlement here calling it Aquae Arnemetiae or the spa of the goddess of the grove and in true Roman fashion set about building a bath house above the area now known as St Anne’s well.
The development of Buxton continued at a pace and it wasn’t many years before the Town became renowned across England and went on to become one of the favourite centres of culture and a sought after holiday resort for the rich and famous of the Victorian era wanting to visit the many fine examples of Peak District luxury accommodation that were now available.
Buxton has been developed on a series of small hills in the region and couple with the large areas of greenery this makes the Peak District holiday cottages here very sought after. Buxton is also home to the oldest hotel in the world (unless you know different) which has a guest list which includes Mary Queen of Scots
There is plenty for the visitor to see and do in Buxton whether you want a nice relaxing stroll along the serpentine walks where you can stop at many of the shaded seating areas along the way on a hot day on the banks of the River Wye or perhaps a visit to the 23 acre Pavilion Gardens with a host of entertainment for all ages including lakes, play areas, delightful gardens and even a miniature railway and putting green.
For more culturally focussed visitors Buxton has a wealth of culture attractions and architecture that are a marvel to behold including a miniature crystal palace and the recently restored Buxton Opera house which has a full season of operatic and musical events throughout the year.
Another very notable annual event is the Buxton Festival, the largest `Fringe’ Festival in England, which takes place in July each year and coincides with the town’s Well Dressing Festival, with a Carnival Procession through the town on the second Saturday in the month.
Buxton probably though apart from its majestic Peak District surrounding most notably know for its spring water which by all accounts takes around 5000 years to filter the porous limestone rocks of the region before breaking surface in the centre of the town.
You don’t have to buy bottled Buxton water of course as it is freely available to the public by St Anne’s well, you may find it a bit warm for your liking though so the chilled bottled variety is a lot more refreshing on a hot summers day.
How To Obtain A Credit Card Instantly Online

If you have spent any time on the Internet, you have undoubtedly come across various credit card companies, offering you lowest interest rates and best fees, or so they claim. Many credit card companies are ran both online and off. With today’s technology, you can apply for a credit card from the convenience of the company’s website. Although many people have a full understanding of how the entire process works, there are still quite a few that don’t.
Many credit card companies have the ability to instantly, or at least within a couple of minutes, process your application online. Although you are instantly approved, you more than likely cannot shop instantly. You will still need to wait until your new credit card arrives in the mail, before you can begin shopping.
You will have to wait a while longer for your credit card to arrive, although your application may only take a couple of minutes for approval. Since your new credit card will be mailed to you, it should only take a couple of days for it to arrive. When looking for instant answer, online credit cards are a great way to go.
There are some major difference between applying for a credit card online and the now “old fashioned” way of applying. One of the main and most obvious differences is time. With online applications, you instantly have an answer one way or another. The old fashion way requires that you wait fill out an application, mail it back in and then wait for a reply. This can take a considerable more amount of time, especially if the company runs across any snags while your application is being processed.
Another noticeable difference is that the more traditional way of obtaining a credit card does not allow you to compare the various credit card companies. When looking to apply online, you have the ability to do a side by side comparison of the other credit cards out there. This ensures that you will get the best deal out there. With all of the different credit cards available, it will be easy to find one with fits your personal needs.
Even with all of the advantages of applying for a credit card online, there are limitations. Online credit approvals are meant for people who already have a good credit rating. However, even if you do not have the best credit, there are still ways to get online approval. The credit card market is a very competitive industry. Therefore, in order to get your business, some of the companies will approve you, even if you have less than perfect credit.

Brits Revealed To Be Struggling With True Cost Of Inflation
Posted on May 29, 2008

Rising living costs are increasingly burning a hole in consumers’ pockets and purses, it has been suggested.
In research carried out by the Motley Fool as part of its bi-annual inflation study it was revealed that increases in the cost of living for “real people” are surging at an annual rate of eight per cent. Such a figure, the firm pointed out, is significantly behind data released by the Office for National Statistics which reported that the consumer price index (CPI) is currently at three per cent. This represents an increase from the 2.5 per cent recorded in April. It was stated that the drive in the CPI - which the government uses to adjust wages - was due to increases in energy costs such as gas, electricity and heating oil.
Because of the variation in the CPI and the Fool’s inflation index, it was predicted thatthe actual houshold income will probably tail behind the real rising cost of living|reported that household incomes will continue to lag behind the rising cost of living[/spin]. At present it was stated that the average consumer is putting one pound out of every 50 away for use in later life. And unless action is taken to counteract this, the personal finance publication reported that in addition to having less disposable money, many people will have to borrow or withdraw cash from savings accounts in an attempt to make ends meet.Furthermore, the Motley Fool predicted that within four years the typical British household may be facing a shortfall of 8,000 pounds in their annual family budget.
In facing dramatic increases in the cost of living, it may be possible that consumers find their capacity to manage the varying demands on their spending is coming under more pressure. This may have an impact upon their capacity to make repayments on mortgages and personal loans, service store and credit card debts, transport expenses and meeting the cost of utility bills.
Commenting on the figures, David Kuo, head of personal finance for the Motley Fool, stated: “The erosion of the amount of money we save each year strongly suggests the true rate of inflation is gradually crippling household budgets. The gap between what we earn and what we spend means we have less money to put away. But as the hole turns into a chasm, we are required to patch up the deficit with money previously salted away. However, a point is reached when the gulf can’t be bridged.”
The Fool went on to say that people need to ensure that they monitor houshold expenditure in order to ensure that they do not succumb to the government’s “inflation trap”. Mr Kuo added: “Just because someone calls the tail on a dog a leg, it doesn’t make it a leg. Pause and think - a dog still only has four legs and a tail.”
For consumers worried about their ability to manage their finances over the remainder of this year in the face of rising living costs, applying for a loan might be advisable. However, those who have difficulties with debts in the past but are confident about their current capacity to make repayments may find that a bad credit loan could be of assistance. By selecting such a loan it may be possible that borrowers can manage tax costs, credit cards and other demands. This could be particular help after Unbiased’s recent Tax Action report revealed that a record 9.3 billion pounds in unnecessary tax payments will be made in 2008.
Blown Away By Cesar Manrique

The Lanzarote property market is largely dominated by apartments and villas. But the island isn´t all about white washed walls, well kept pools and manicured ordered gardens. As some property for sale in Lanzarote borders on the surreal. Such as Cesar Manrique´s incredible home in Tahiche. Which has been built into five volcanic bubbles.
Cesar Manrique is the ubiquitous island born artist and architect who saved Lanzarote from being buried beneath a sea of concrete when package tourism started to take of in Spain back in the 1970´s.
Manrique was born in the islands capital Arrecife in 1919 – and fell deeply in love with the natural beauty of the island as a young boy. On family vacations to the resort of Famara on the north-east coast of the island. Which is still widely regarded as one of the islands most breathtaking beauty spots.
Here, the young Manrique would spend hours gazing at the reflection of the cliffs of the Famara massif in rock pools – providing inspiration and sparking a creativity that would later repay the island in spades.
During the 1960´s Spain – under the aegis of General Franco – ran headlong into the arms of mass market tourism. With swathes of the countries southern coastline disappearing under blocks of high rise apartments and hotels.
At this time Manrique was working and studying in New York – and rubbing shoulders with the likes of Andy Warhol. But the artist was sensitive to the threat tourism held for his beloved island. And returned to campaign for a policy of restraint – the fruits of which are readily apparent to anyone visiting the island today.
There are, for example, no advertising hoardings – which are banned. All buildings must not be any taller than a Canarian palm tree – or three storeys high. And all of the houses on the island are painted white – to create unifying and aesthetically pleasing visual harmony.
Manrique also wanted to illuminate a path for future development on the island. As some locals were intent on pulling down their traditional dwellings to replace them with something more modern.
Manrique wanted to illustrate what could be achieved by fusing art with nature – and as a result stumbled across five volcanic chambers in Tahiche – where he created an incredible underground home. Which was to provide a blueprint for the creation of tourist attractions such as the Jameos del Agua.
Today – his house is home to the Cesar Manrique Foundation – which continues to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
Unofficial Tourism Guide To Majorca

Without wanting to state the obvious, the island of Majorca is surrounded by sea. Clear blue seas, calm, tranquil and rich in sea life. At ports around the island, companies are offering visitors the chance to get out on to the seas and experience the Mediterranean for themselves.
For the more nautical amongst you who wish to set sail yourself there are plenty of opportunities to do so as Majorca has 41 marinas, 30 sailing clubs and mooring for around 10,000 yachts. Here’s some of my favourite sailing areas on the island.
Pollensa Marina is set at the head of a beautiful wide bay in the north east of Majorca. The water is on the shallow side and attention must be paid to the depth when approaching and entering the marina. Winds from the NE - SE can make entry difficult and sometimes dangerous. The old town of Pollensa is worth a visit. The area is good walking country with a 1 mile stroll N to Cala Vincente worthwhile.
Alcudia Marina is situated in a larger harbour, which is used by commercial and fishing craft. The marina is easy to approach and enter but shelter is limited with E - SE winds. There is considerable tourist development and the whole area is very crowded during the summer. There is a Roman theatre, St Martin’s cave and a castle and museum, which may be of interest.
The southern coast, by contrast, is in the main rocky cliffs plunging into the Mediterranean. Port d’Andratx, on the south west coast, is a small attractive town built on low hills all around a narrow bay. Majorca has a magnificent coastline consisting of rocky outcrops intermingled with many small coves that offer excellent sandy beaches.
Andraitx harbour serves both as marina and is home to the local fishing fleet. The surroundings are most attractive as is the local village. Although the housing developments have taken away some of its original charm. Entrance is easy and protection good. Yachts can though expect some gusts from the high surrounding hills and strong winds from the S - SW can produce swell.
You do not have to be an experienced sailor to enjoy Majorca. There are many sailing schools offering affordable courses for holiday makers. My suggestion for a holiday this summer would be to book into one of the cheap Majorca Apartments for rent, enroll on a sailing course and transform into Ellen MacArthur (dodgy haircut not obligatory). Alternatively, if that sounds too much like hard work, soak up the Majorca sun at the hotels in Majorca pool.
