These phishing scams happen when you receive an email requesting that you either visit a website to provide bank account and other personal information, or ask that you send your bank account information through an email. These emails can look very professional, and they may look very much like they came from a site that you actually use. Throughout the history of identity theft the thieves have come up with consistently clever ways to get your info, so always be on your guard.

Protecting your personal information shouldn’t feel like a chore, but rather a necessity. Simply hoping that you will never be the victim to identity theft is not in itself a good way to avoid identity theft.
